$36 M Available for Hazard Mitigation
Geni Jo Brawner, the State Hazard Mitigation Officer, gave an informative and compelling presentation on the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program at the 2021 Kentucky Rural Water EXPO. The big takeaway for utilities is the current availability of HMGP funding due to the severe storms & icing, landslides and mudslides that occurred February 8-19, 2021, and February 27- March 14, 2021. This is a great opportunity to build system resiliency by installing generators (permanent & tow-able), switch-gear, or relocating critical infrastructure, etc.
To be considered for funding, the Mitigation Actions Forms (MAF) must be submitted in the Community Hazard Assessment and Mitigation Planning System (CHAMPS) by Friday, July 16, 2021. CHAMPS can be accessed at this website address: https://kyem.ky.gov/recovery/Pages/CHAMPS.aspx. Keep in mind that this is a lengthy process with a 13% cost share, but well worth your time and effort to enhance system resiliency for your customers.
